Just a short walk from Omotesando’s busy shopping streets, Nezu Museum feels like stepping into another world. While its collection of pre-modern Japanese and East Asian art is well worth exploring, the real highlight is the 17,000-square-metre traditional Japanese garden, with winding stone paths, ponds, stone lanterns and hidden teahouses. Visit in autumn if you can, when the Japanese maples turn shades of red and gold, and take your time wandering without an agenda.

Séntire’s take: Come for the gardens as much as the art. This is somewhere to slow down, find a moment of peace and appreciate the changing seasons – ideally followed by a tea or coffee at NEZUCAFÉ overlooking the greenery.
