If you go, book the counter seats – being close to the open fire and watching the kitchen move gives the whole meal an extra layer of energy. From the menu, don’t miss the walnut bread with winter tomatoes, the brill crudo with almond and rhubarb, and the beautifully simple Dover sole. But the dish that really stayed with us – and made us want to come back – was the wood-fired rice: smoky, deeply savoury, and somehow the plate everyone keeps reaching back into.
