Set above Kensington High Street, The Roof Gardens has been part of London’s social scene since the 1930s. Originally created on top of the former Derry & Toms department store, the gardens opened in 1938 and quickly became a destination in their own right. Its reputation for big nights took hold over the decades that followed – from the Biba era to its years under Virgin, when the gardens became synonymous with parties, celebrities and some of London’s more memorable nights out.
After closing in 2018, the space was reimagined and reopened in 2024 as a private members’ club, bringing a new generation into Kensington. The atmosphere feels more contemporary than its history might suggest – a place to work, eat, drink, socialise and stay late, with the gardens still at its centre.
Séntire’s take: Summer is when we’d make the most of it, whether that’s lunch, drinks on the terrace or an evening that turns into something later. But the club works just as well year-round, with two restaurants, a cinema, lounges and a programme of events keeping things moving beyond the gardens. It’s the kind of place where you can come for one thing but stay for everything else.
Most importantly, its there to connect you with like-minded people - and the club continues to exceed at that.
