Hôtel du Couvent is unlike anything else in Nice – a former 17th-century convent reimagined with extraordinary attention to detail, while preserving as much of the original building as possible. The interiors were created by Festen, the Parisian duo Charlotte de Tonnac and Hugo Sauzay, whose approach allows the original floors, stonework and architectural details to remain firmly at the heart of the design. There is something almost biblical about the property – serene, grounded and blessed, without ever feeling overly reverent – with soaring ceilings and expansive rooms filled with natural light giving the whole place an unusually uplifting energy.

The 20-metre pool, set high above the rooftops with views stretching across Nice and towards the Mediterranean, is one of the hotel's great USPs. Add three restaurants, the ancient Roman baths and a beautifully considered spa, and the experience feels less like a hotel stay and more like stepping into a small, self-contained world. It is vibrant, wholesome and deeply rooted in its history – creating an oasis in the urban part of the Riviera.
